The roaster

A closer look.

Radio Roasters treats coffee as an ongoing experiment, pairing a small-roaster mindset with the eclectic spirit of a low-watt FM station. Founded in 2014 by former NPR producer Chip Grabow, the Decatur operation looks beyond a single flavor doctrine: bright, crisp, fruit-driven lots sit alongside smooth, chocolatey coffees built for everyday drinking. Its sourcing centers on Ethiopia, Kenya, Guatemala, Colombia, Brazil, and Mexico, with importers, producers, and cooperatives connecting the roaster to estates and smallholder communities. That structure reflects a practical approach to direct trade—relationship-focused, but candid about the essential role of importing partners. The music motif runs through names such as Hi/Fi Blend and the Tweeter and Woofer espresso blends, yet it remains more than packaging. The Decatur tasting bar folds the roasting facility into the cafe and retail space, letting guests drink espresso, browse fresh beans, and see production up close. The result feels curious, approachable, and tuned to variety rather than dogma.
