A closer look.
PT’s built its identity around a blunt premise: coffee quality begins with durable relationships at origin. Founded in Topeka in 1993 after Jeff Taylor and Fred Polzin went looking for a better cup, it began sourcing green coffee and roasting in 1997. (ptscoffee.com) Nearly 80% of its coffee now comes through Direct Trade partnerships. The program ties quality to concrete terms: for coffees scoring above 88, verifiable farmer or cooperative payments must exceed the C-market or Fair Trade price by at least 25%; representatives visit each producer at least once per harvest; and financial distribution remains transparent. (ptscoffee.com) That rigor continues at the roastery, where single origins and signature blends are roasted to order five days a week.
