About this coffee

Country: Papua New Guinea Region: Ulya, Jiwaka Province Farmers: Smallholder Farms Elevation: 1,500-1,700 masl Process: Natural Varietals: Bourbon, Arusha, Typica Tasting Notes: Spiced Apple Cider, Rose, Nutmeg Roaster's Notes: Naturally processed coffee from the Ulya region of Jiwaka Province in the highlands of Papua New Guinea. Grown at elevations of 1,500–1,700 meters by smallholder farmers, this coffee is produced from Bourbon, Arusha, and Typica varieties. Coffee trees are typically cultivated on small family farms alongside food crops, with the fertile volcanic soils and cool mountain climate providing excellent growing conditions. Natural process coffee is less common in Papua New Guinea than washed processing, and contributes to the coffee's fruit-forward profile. After drying, the coffee is milled and prepared for export by Monpi Coffee Exports, one of Papua New Guinea's longest-established specialty coffee exporters, before being imported by Royal Coffee. Papua New Guinea has become known for producing distinctive, high-quality coffees, and Paraka Koi Natural highlights the country's growing expertise with natural processing. The result is a vibrant, sweet coffee that showcases both the unique terroir of the PNG highlands and the careful work of the smallholder farmers who produce it.
