Big Shoulders Coffee

Ecuador - Siempre Verde

About this coffee

From the mountainous region of Pichincha, Ecuador, comes this distinctive washed Typica Mejorado from Siempre Verde Farm, a family operation led by Ramiro and Vicky Granda. Nestled in the Ecuadorian Andes near the Pululahua Geobotanical Reserve, the farm reflects a deep commitment to quality, environmental stewardship, and community. This lot showcases a variety celebrated for its aromatic complexity, refined sweetness, and cup clarity. Ecuador holds a special place in the Big Shoulders Coffee story, thanks to the longstanding friendship between Tim and Diego, the 2025 U.S. Roasting Champion, originally from Ecuador. Diego and Tim have worked together for over 25 years, building a friendship rooted in food, coffee and a shared love of discovery. Over the years, that connection has extended well beyond the roastery and lubricated by bottles of Zhumir. The bond between the Coonan and Guartan families is a reminder that great coffee is about far more than what’s in the cup; it’s about the people, traditions, and shared experiences that bring us together. This washed Typica Mejorado from Siempre Verde Farm brings those connections to life through a coffee that invites sharing it with friends. The washed process highlights the variety’s inherent sweet character, offering an opportunity to discover its balance, sweetness, and expressive aromatics. At Big Shoulders Coffee, we believe exceptional coffee begins with curiosity and grows through relationships with the farmers who cultivate it, the people who roast it, and the Chicago community that inspire us. This is Ecuador in the cup: distinctive in character, rich in connection, and close to our heart
