The roaster
A closer look.
George Howell Coffee organizes its identity around origin: the farm, region, and producer’s craft should remain legible in the cup. Its specialty is light roasting, used to foreground acidity, floral notes, and fruit, while medium and dark profiles remain part of the range. (georgehowellcoffee.com) Sourcing centers on long-running farm relationships, direct purchases, producer visits, and prices above Fair Trade benchmarks. (georgehowellcoffee.com) The most distinctive operational detail is storage: green coffee is frozen or sealed in GrainPro bags to slow aging, allowing seasonal lots to be roasted throughout the year. Coffee is then roasted daily to order in small batches and packed after quality approval. (georgehowellcoffee.com) In its Massachusetts cafés, that precision turns outward through rotating single-origin coffees, Chemex and single-cup pour-overs, coffee flights, brewing equipment, and public classes. (georgehowellcoffee.com) The result is a roaster with a curator’s temperament, focused on making terroir and producer workmanship easier to taste.
