A closer look.
Crimson Cup treats roasting as the center of a wider system for independent coffeehouses. Founded in Columbus in 1991, it hand-roasts specialty coffee in small batches, adjusting time and heat to the character of each lot. Single-origin and microlot coffees generally receive lighter roasts to preserve origin flavor, while Armando’s Blend anchors the range as a versatile signature developed for espresso, milk drinks, and drip coffee.
Sourcing runs through Friend2Farmer, a program that pairs producer relationships with direct investment in better pricing, training, and long-term soil health. Back in Ohio, the Innovation Lab brings those beans into classrooms, cupping, roasting, and hands-on drink training for café teams. The company’s own coffeehouses also function as working test spaces; the Clintonville shop centers a brew bar, cup-by-cup single origins, nitro cold brew, and seasonal drinks. The result is an unusually practical point of view: coffee quality, menu design, and shop operations belong in the same conversation.
